It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 10 years since Rihanna released her debut album, 2005’s Music Of The Sun. Few pop artists get to enjoy such longevity and retain as much credibility as Rihanna. But as ‘Work’, her US chart-topping single with Drake, proves, she remains a vital part of the musical landscape.
Perhaps even more remarkable is that she’s made it look so easy. Debut single ‘Pon De Replay’ charged to No.2 on both sides of the Atlantic, kick-starting a formidable run of 51 hit singles – including enough chart-toppers to make her the only artist to hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with singles from seven consecutive albums.
Released on 16 December, the Studio Album Vinyl Box collects all eight of Rihanna’s albums in a sumptuous 15LP box set – five of which have never been made available on vinyl before, and all but one pressed on double-vinyl. Fittingly, for an artist whose career is marked by a determination to reinvent herself, the set includes a 186-page hardback book that features oversized reproductions of all the booklets that came with the original CD releases, tracing each new stylistic turn in Rihanna’s career. Coming in a high-gloss slipcase featuring Rihanna’s foil-stamped signature, and including a slipmat which also features the star’s signature, the collection stands as a testament to Rihanna’s formidable body of work.
From Jamaican dancehall to R&B ballads, party-starting anthems and expressions of heartbreak, Rihanna has almost made a game out of keeping her fans guessing as to what will come next. However, one glance at the Studio Album Vinyl Box makes one thing very clear: hers is a unique career that has resulted in some of the most memorable hits of recent years.
The Studio Album Vinyl Box includes:
Music Of The Sun (2LP)
A Girl Like Me (2LP)
Good Girl Gone Bad (2LP)
Rated R (2LP)
Talk That Talk (LP)
